3. Management of common diseases

a) Demonstrate appropriate management of the following common endocrine disorders

      • Diabetes mellitus (Type 1 and Type 2)
      • Thyroid disorders (hyper/hypothyroidism, thyroiditis, thyroid nodules)

b) Understand the basic management of the following endocrine disorders:

      • Adrenal cortical disorders (hyper/hypoadrenalism)
      • Pheochromocytoma
      • Pituitary disorders (hyperprolactinemia, hypopituitarism)
      • Osteoporosis
      • Hyperparathyroidism
      • Sodium/Water disorders (SIADH, Diabetes insipidus)

1. Obtain a thorough and relevant history

a) Elicit a focused, complete and accurate medical history in patients with endocrine disorders

b) Seek out and incorporate relevant medical information from other sources, such as the patients family, caregivers, physician and other health care providers

c) Encourage discussion, questions and interaction in the patient encounter


2. Bedside presentation of patient problems

a) Convey oral history, including endocrine patient’s history and physical findings in a concise and effective manner
